28 days have passed, and that means it’s time for the next treatment to start. Our daughter, Caitlin, is here visiting for a few days so she got to join us and meet the gang at the clinic. Vicki, the former volunteer at the clinic when we first began going four years ago, met us in the lobby and stayed awhile to visit. Being friends with the staff and volunteers make the visits more of a treat than a source of dread. We love them all.
My labs looked great. The bone marrow stimulation shot is doing its job. The doc and I put our heads together and came up with some possible solutions for my coughing issues. Everyone was excited to meet Caitlin and she got to see what we do every other week around here.
After my treatment, we rewarded ourselves with breakfast at Breaking Bread in Coeur d’Alene. Best bakery, breakfast, and lunch spot in town!
The CEA (one of my tumor marker tests) results weren’t exactly what we wanted. There has been a steady upward trend since they found these new tumors in January of this year, which is an indication that something is cooking in there. It’s still fairly low, but we want to see it decrease.
My next PET scan will be on October 13th. So now we enter the time when we can be anxious and worry about what the scan will reveal, or we can trust in the Lord and lay all of those worries and anxieties at His feet. We choose, of course, to do the latter, although the former persistently tries to push its way in. I have worried and been certain that the report would be bad, only to receive excellent news. Alternatively, I have been certain that we would receive a good report, only to be slapped in the face with a bitter list of new tumors, their sizes, and their metabolic intensity. After four years of this, I know it doesn’t matter how much I worry – it won’t change a thing.
So we pray. We praise God for all He has done and will do. We start our day in His Word and end the day in prayer before lights out. He is in control. He loves us more than we can know. His plans for us are even more amazing than we can imagine.
“Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down, but a good word makes it glad.”
Proverbs 12:25 (NASB)
